DescriptionA man with a bandage on his right foot is seated in a chair in the interior of a room, probably a parlor. He has a beard and wears a military uniform. A leather satchel and a cane are on the floor beside him. A woman and an elderly man are seated in chairs at the right. The woman looks away from the soldier and holds her hand to her head. The old man wears a shirt, vest, and trousers. His coat hangs from the back of the chair. A dog lies on the floor at his feet. Two small children, apparently a boy and a girl, are seated on the floor. An elderly woman wearing eyeglasses and a cap stand leaning on a cane in the background. A framed picture, possibly a Kellogg lithograph, depicting a man and woman seated at a table, hangs on the wall in the background. A large book with the title "HOLY / BIBLE" on the spine is on a table covered by a tablecloth. A mirror is above the table. An urn-shaped object, possibly a lamp or a knifebox, is on the corner of a mantle in the right background. Fringed drapery tied back with a cord frames a window in the left background.
