DescriptionOil painting of the Royal Coat of Arms of Great Britain, with a crowned lion on the left and a unicorn on the right, and between them a shield divided into four quarters. Encircling the shield is the maxim "Honi soit qui mal y pense" (Dishonored be him who thinks evil of it), and below the lion, shield, and unicorn is the motto "Dieu et mon droit" (God and my right).
NotesSubject note: The coat of arms did hang over the Speaker's Chair in the Hall of Representatives in Connecticut's colonial legislature. It was removed from this position during the American Revolution, and is said to have been later exhibited in the Hartford Museum (Reverend Joseph Steward's Museum), which was in operation from 1797 until at least 1840.
