DescriptionBoy's suit of black velvet, consisting of a jacket (.a) and short pants (.b). The jacket has a revers front opening that extends for the length of the jacket and gradually widens towards the bottom; it is faced with black satin. The slanted bottom edges of the revers are decorated with four brass buttons resembling studs. The neckline is high and round; it is bound with black satin and fastens with a hook and eye. The long sleeves are slightly gathered at the shoulder. They are cut with an upper and lower seam like a coat sleeve. The wrist opening is bound with black satin. The back of the jacket is vented at the center back and side back seams. The jacket is fully lined with the satin.

The short pants open at each side for a length of about four inches and fasten with a single, black-enamelled button. The bottom edge of each leg is decorated at the outside seam with a black satin ribbon bow. A buttonhole worked in a strip of white cotton is stitched inside the waistline at center front and center back and on each side for fastening the pants to the shirt. The pants are lined with brown cotton. The waist is lined with black, twill-woven silk for a depth of 1 3/4 inches.
