DescriptionBoy's suit of black velvet, consisting of a jacket (.a) and short pants (.b). The jacket is styled with a cutaway front opening, which fastens at the high, round neckline with a self-fabric tab and two buttons (only one is functional), over a hook and eye. The tab and the neckline, continuing down the open edges and around the bottom edge, are bound with black silk tape. The coat sleeves are decorated with silk tape near the wrist openings, curving up to a point at the back of the arm, below the elbow. The proper left side of the jacket has two pockets, while the right side has only one pocket. The pocket edges are bound with silk tape. The jacket is vented at the side seams. The bottom edge of the jacket at the center back has a double curve. The jacket is lined with black/brown cotton sateen.

The pants are about knee-length. They open on each side for about 7 1/4 inches and fasten at the hip with two black satin-covered buttons. Four buttons of various metals are stitched along the top of the pants for fastening the suspenders. Inside the waistline is stitched a strip of polished white cotton with buttonholes for attaching to the shirt. There is a pocket inside the front edge on each side of the pants opening. The pants are lined with brown twill-woven cotton.
