DescriptionCommercial buildings and utility poles line a city street. Many of the buildings are in the Second Empire style. Some have awnings. Some have rusticated masonry. One has decorative sculpture on its facade. A large clock is on the sidewalk. The spire of the First Congregational Church is visible in the distance. Signs read: "HURD, MULLEN & HEWES / CHINA GLASSWARE LAMPS / TIN WARE STOVES AND RANGES" "GEO. W. MOORE / MORTGAGE LOANS" "CONNECTICUT RIVER [BANK]" "SCHALL'S". Trees at the left are in front of the Old State House. Horse-drawn cabs are drawn up by the sidewalk. Men, women, boys, and girls crowd the sidewalks and walk in the streets. An infant in a baby carriage is on the corner, near a gas street lamp. Horse-drawn vehicles are in the road, including two horse-drawn omnibuses. Milk cans are in a wagon at the right. Men and boys ride high-wheel bicycles. A large group of cyclists is in the left background.
