DescriptionAmbrotype of David Allen Starr, Edwin Joseph Starr, Harriet Newell Rogers Starr, and Elisha Rogers Starr (left to right). David is wearing a jacket with a row of buttons down the middle and a white collar. Edwin and Elisha are both wearing suits with bow ties, and Edwin is resting his left hand on his mother's shoulders. Harriet is wearing a long-sleeved dress with a white collar. The boys are all standing, and Harriet is sitting on a chair.

The case is embossed on paper, brown but with some of the tan wood (or cardboard) showing through from wear. Embossed on the front of the case, in the center, is a design of leaves and flowers, with a frame around it. Around that frame, a cross-hatched pattern is also embossed. Around the very outside of the case is a thin golden leaf pattern. The back of the case is a slightly darker color brown, with the same thin golden leaf pattern border along the very edges. Embossed in the center is a design of interlocking shapes (parts of circles and lines). Bordering the design is another embossed patterned border. The case has two hooks to close the case. The binding of the case has been taped over with a piece of red tape.

The inside of the case, on the left side, is red velvet, with a design embossed in the center. In each corner, there is also an embossed design. The thin golden leaf pattern borders the red velvet. On the right side of the case, there is the thin golden leaf pattern border on the very edgeand additional borders before reaching in the center the oval photograph, surrounded by a copper-colored material.
