DescriptionInfant's gown of white cotton, with a wide, rounded neckline controlled by a drawstring. The neckline is bordered with scalloped embroidery, filled with net; star-like spots embroidered in bullion stitch appear below the scallops. The short sleeves are similarly embroidered around the opening edge. They are pointed at the top of the arm; this point would be folded back and fastened with a button at the top of the shoulder. The buttons are made of wire loops covered with muslin and embroidered with a simple flower-like design. The dress falls straight from the neck to the hem, with a slight flare. The back of the skirt is longer than the front. The bottom of the skirt is embroidered with a border of leafy sprigs and circles filled with net, along with a chain design made of French knots, net-filled ovals, and satin-stitched leaves. The bottom edge is scalloped and embroidered. The dress is open for about one inch at the center back neckline.
