DescriptionA woman is seated in an upholstered chair in the interior of a room. Her foot rests on a footstool. She wears a cap, tied with a bow beneath her chin, and a jacket or wrapper made of what appears to be black lace. Her skirt is trimmed with striped flounces. She holds a young girl on her lap. The child wears a bonnet, a dress trimmed with what appears to be ruching, and a belt with a buckle. She either wears a floral corsage or holds a small bouquet of flowers, probably roses, in her right hand. Patterned wallpaper is on the wall; patterned drapery is in the right background; a patterned carpet is on the floor. A large fountain is visible through a window at the left. Two swans are in the basin of the fountain. A large house and trees are in the background.
