DescriptionMemorial picture worked in grey, light medium and dark green, medium and dark brown, light medium and dark blue, black silk threads, gold sequins, or spangles, and light blue paint, on a satin-woven, cream-colored silk ground, using satin stitch and other stitches. The picture shows an urn on top of a cylindrical stone support with a wide base; a spray of flowers emerges from the urn. To the left is a tree. In the foreground is a small stream. This scene is surrounded by an oval of sequins, with a loop of sequins at the top. The edges of the ground are nailed to a rectangular stretcher. The picture is behind glass (replaced) that is painted gold and black around the edges. The gilded frame (original) consists of one deeply curved band of molding with an applied rope-twist lining the inside of the molding.
The memorial picture is accompanied by the original glass (broken); it is painted gold and black around the edges.
Stitches: The primary stitch on the memorial picture is a satin stitch; it also includes encroaching satin, outline, and flat.
Condition: The glass is replaced; the original glass is broken and repaired with tape.
