DescriptionPhotographs relating to the political career of William H. Mortensen: on the board of education; as state senator; and as mayor of Hartford from 1943 to 1945. Included are a pre-election rally, a post-election celebration, Mayor Mortensen at his desk, reading mail, giving a speech at a podium, giving a testimonial broadcast on WTHT radio, meeting with the presidents of local labor unions, eating breakfast, removing the last trolley track in Hartford, on roller skates, and in a Chris Craft motorboat.

Several photographs document visits from the British foreign secretary, Edward Frederick Lindley Wood, Lord Halifax, to Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, Hamilton Standard, and a luncheon at The Hartford Club. Other people include: Lt. Governor William L. Hadden; Chief Justice William M. Maltbie; Judge Abraham S. Bordon; Alice Carroll Mortensen; Karen Mortensen; George Stamatello, a school janitor; Raymond Baldwin; John Hurley; Mary Hooker; Eleanor Kennelly; Roger Ladd; Michael Daley; Charles F.T. Seaverns; radio announcer Cedric Foster; General Dwight D. Eisenhower; Bill Thomsen; Mrs. G. Gardner Russell (Ruth); Mrs. Michael D. Fox (Catherine); Fred D. Wish Jr., a faculty advisor to WHM; Ed Ahern; Saul Berman; and Jack Zaiman.

A later photograph of ex-Mayors of Hartford includes Dominick DeLucco, Cyril Coleman, Joseph W. Beach, Dennis O'Conner, James H. Kinsella, Newton C. Brainard, and William H. Mortensen. Some photographs include American flags, dogs, eating and drinking, eyeglasses, flowers, microphones, soldiers in uniform, typewriters, Venetian blinds. Most photographs were taken in Hartford. Specific locations include the Old State House, the Connecticut State Capitol, Colt Park, and Keney Park. Locations outside Hartford include East Hartford and Candlewood Lake.
