Family members include his first wife, Alice Carroll Mortensen, his second wife Trice Carter Mortensen, his parents John (Jens) L. and Karen Mortensen, his brothers Peter, Edward, and Elmer and their wives, Otto and Marie Mortensen, Howard Bradstreet, Charles F. T. Seaverns, Appleton Seaverns and his wife, and Dr. T. Stewart Hamilton.
School portraits include a group picture of four young men, labeled "Batterson Debate / April 1922". They are identified as George W. Goodman, William H. Mortensen, Lewis Fox, and Edwin Weedmark. Two other group school photos are from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. The first is labeled "Freshmen class" with a large group of young men and women standing on steps in front of a brick building. The other photo is a group of young men seated and standing outside by a tree, labeled 'The Polygon Debate Club'. Members are identified as: Louis Horap [or Harap] of New York; Louis Desjardins of Cinncinatti, Ohio; Melvin Ellis, Secretary, of Tallahassee, Florida; William Mortensen, President, of Hartford, Connectictut; Herman Savanguer, Vice President, of Ohio; Robert Parks of Buffalo, New York; Archie Allardyce of Michigan; Harold Metzendorf of New York; Herman Coulter of Missouri; John Butler of Kentucky; William Meyer of Freso, California; Edward Mortensen of Hartford; N.S. Places included: 175 Ridgefield Street, 225 Blue Hills Avenue, and Keney Park in Hartford; a rocky shoreline, with utility poles and wires visible at Knollwood Beach in Old Saybrook; and Yellow Springs, Ohio.

Subject Note: The oldest Mortensen brother, Lars, was killed around 1918 when he stuck his head out of a train window.
