DescriptionDress (a.): Infant's baptismal dress of white cotton, elaborately decorated on the bodice and skirt front with rows of bobbin lace insertion and bands of whitework embroidery (all machine-made) flanked by ruffles of self-fabric edged with bobbin lace. The neckline is high and round and trimmed with bobbin lace. The long sleeves are straight and end in cuffs of whitework edged with lace. The back of the skirt is gathered into the bodice waist edge, which is high. The center back opens for sixteen inches and fastens with four mother of pearl buttons. Six tucks are taken around the bottom of the skirt sides and back, joining the center front panel of lace and whitework.
