DescriptionMen stand beside long rows of machines in a factory interior. Some men wear overalls. One man has a mustache. A man in the center aisle holds a broom. The machines have large drums around which the silk fibers are wound. They are powered by belts attached to drive wheels on a shaft that runs along the ceiling. Bins and bags are on the floor behind the men. Electric light bulbs with shades hang from the ceiling. Inscribed on back: "Cheney Bros."
NotesSubject Note: In the 1910s, Cheney Brothers advertised that they were "the oldest and largest successful silk manufacturing company in America and the largest silk manufacturing company in the world." They produced dress silks of all kinds, silks for upholstery and drapery, velvets, cravats, millinery silks, silks for electrical purposes and silk yarns.
