DescriptionA large group of men pose on the steps of the Old State House in Hartford. Most wear suits and neckties and have mustaches and beards. Two men at the right hold drums and drumsticks. A hat lies on the ground near the foot of one man. Three large lamps are in the background in front of the State House entrance. A grassy lawn and paved sidewalks are in the foreground.
NotesSubject Note: The Sixteenth Connecticut Volunteer Infantry was organized in Hartford on August 24, 1862. They took part in the Battles of Antietam and Fredericksburg and numerous other engagements. On April 20, 1864, most of the regiment surrendered and were taken captive at Plymouth, North Carolina. They remained prisoners of war until Marcdh 1865. The photographer Daniel S. Camp was a member of the regiment.
