DescriptionEleven women and three men stand on the steps of a brick church building. The women wear dresses and hats. Some wear coats and jewelry. Some hold handbags. Some of the coats are trimmed with fur. The men wear suits and ties. An American flag is at the left. A Connecticut state flag is at the right. A plaque on the right reads: "THE / FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST / IN / WETHERSFIELD / CONGREGAT[0N] / Founded [ ] / Present Building B[uilt] / Eugene M. Bushoo[ ] / Parsonage / SUNDAY SC[HOOL] / Church School / Morning Wors[hip]..." A tablet on the left reads: "GEORGE WASHINGTON / ATTENDED SERVICE / IN THIS MEETING HOUSE / MAY 20, 1781..."
NotesSubject Note: Wethersfield celebrated its Tercentenary in 1934. Several tablets were dedicated to mark the event. The one at the Congregational Church commemorates George Washington's attendance there in 1781.
