NotesSubject Note: According to notes on the back of the photograph, George Abiel Washburn was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He later lived in West Stafford and Hartford, Connecticut, serving at one point as a teller in the State Bank. During the Civil War, he served with the Fourth Regiment of Connecticut Volunteers, the First Connecticut Heavy Artillery, and the Sixteenth Regiment of Connecticut Volunteers. He enlisted as a First Lieutenant and ultimately achieved the rank of General.
