DescriptionThree large Greek revival stone academic buildings, the center with a columned portico. A group of men, most wearing hats, stand on a grassy lawn. There are several leafless trees. A fence runs along a sidewalk. There is a dirt street in the foreground.
NotesSubject Note: Trinity College, originally named Washington College, was located on Trinity Street near the site of the future Connecticut State Capitol Building until the 1870s, when it moved to its new Gothic campus on Summit Street.

Date Note: Although the old Trinity College buildings pictured here had been torn down by the 1880s, this photograph must have been printed between 1885 and 1889, since the address of Richard S. DeLamater, the photographer, appears as 15 Pratt Street, and he was only at that location between those dates. The photograph must, of course, have been taken prior to the 1870s, when construction on the Connecticut State Capitol began. (Finlay, 10/28/2003)
