DescriptionThree-quarter length standing portrait of Nathaniel Lyon wearing a military uniform. A sword is strapped to his waist and a hat with a plume rests on a table beside him. His right hand rests on a sheet of paper on the table, inscribed with the words "DUG S. P. / ROLLA / SPRINGFIELD". Also on the table are a telescope and an inkwell with two quill pens in it. Drapery is in the left background. Soldiers are fighting in the right background.
