Piles of lumber lie near the railroad tracks of the Connecticut Valley Rail Road. A railroad overpass is in the right background. The large building in the right background is a steamboat dock. The stone building in the left background is the back of E. Gross & Co. To its left are the backs of other frame and brick buildings on Ferry Street. Smoke rises from a chimney.
