A street light hangs by a rope and pulley from a pole in the foreground. The commercial buildings in the background are, from right to left: Brown Thompson & Co. and G. Fox & Co. Signs read: "The Great Sale / of the Year" "Our Annual / Cost Sale" "Biggest Stock of Merchandise / In the State" "Everything / at cost or less." "Fox's." The gothic church in the background is the First Baptist Church. Beyond the church, a sign painted on the side of a building reads: "Union Grocery."
