DescriptionMen dressed as Native Americans ride horses on a city street. Some wear feather headdresses, buffalo horns, buckskin clothing, and wigs with braids. A sign on a brick commercial building reads: "209 Mrs. Sill's [211?]" A sign on the awning reads: "209 Stationery..." Hats are on sale in the store at the far left. Ivy grows on the building at the far right.
NotesSubject Note: Mrs. Emilie M. Sill was a bookseller, newsdealer and stationer at 211 Trumbull Street, the Allyn House annex. Horsemen are probably members of the Improved Order of Red Men, not Native Americans. Hartford had two tribes of these Red Men in 1912: the Sicaogg Tribe, organized in 1901 and the Sonquassen Tribe, organized in 1908.
