DescriptionTwo-story bank building, evidently of brownstone, with a heavy cornice, arched windows and a relief inscription that reads: "Farmers & Mechanics Bank." Striped awnings are at some windows. A bicycle rack is on the porch. A bicycle is at the curb. A street sign on the corner of the building reads: "State St." Several men, police or fire call box, a mailbox and utility poles are on the sidewalk. Wires run along the street and into buildings. A street light, evidently a gaslight, hangs from the pole in the center foreground. A woman stands beneath the awning of the building immediately to the right. White curtains are in a fourth-story window. Windows have louvered shutters. Signs on the commercial buildings to the left read: "T. Sullivan / Liquor / and / Cigars" "Leather" "Cafe" Teas / Coffee."
