DescriptionParade floats in the shape of an oil well and a mantle clock. The float at the left has signs that read: "Drake's Folly" "First Oil Well in 1859, Sponsored by the Rackliffe Oil Co." Crowds of men, women and children line the sidewalks on both sides of the street. Banners hang from utility poles. The brick building is St. Peter's convent.
NotesSubject Note: Hartford celebrated the 300th anniversary of the founding of Connecticut with a parade on October 12, 1935. It included 20,000 marchers, 105 floats, twelve large divisions, thirty bands, over 500 separate organizations and 20 national groups. It was watched by 400,000 people and took three hours to pass by. The Sisters of Mercy lived at St. Peter's Convent, 188 Main Street, Hartford.
