DescriptionFive-story brick hotel building with a mansard roof and several chimneys. A sign reads: "City Hotel." Lace curtains are visible at some windows, interior louvered shutters at others. Shops occupying the ground floor have signs that read: "Henry Hart, confectioner" "Hart's / Pure Candies" "Seyms & Co." "Barber / Shop" Two striped poles indicate the presence of the barber shop. Lamps hang from the porches and a street light is on the sidewalk. A sign on the sidewalk at the right reads: "Cool / Lager / Â…Ales" The awning on the frame building at the right reads: "219 R.H. Douthwaite & Son." Merchandise is displayed in the shop windows. Commercial buildings at the left of the hotel have signs "Mitchell & Co." "Robbins Bros." "Â…Winship [?] & Co." "Cabinet Warehouse" "Furniture" "Linus T. Fenn / Chamber, Office, Library / Dining Room & Hall / Furniture."
NotesSubject Note: Curtis Judson was the proprietor of the City Hotel in 1882. Seyms & Co. were grocers. The partners were John Seyms, Robert N. Seyms, and C.A. Champlin. Robert H. Douthwaite and his son Robert H. Douthwaite, Jr. sold fruit and confectionary. Dwight W. Mitchell was a tobacconist at 215 Main Street. F.A. Robbins and P.W.Robbins were partners in Robbins Bros., dealers in cabinet furniture.
