DescriptionGrocery store in a brick building, evidently used for both commercial and residential purposes. Three men stand on the steps of the shop, beneath signs that read: "Tea, Coffee, Spices, Provisions, Flour and Fruit" "Wm. H.H. Hewitt, Grocer." Additional signs on pilasters and shop windows read: "Meat / Market" "Coffee T & Spice / Department." Additional advertising is on an awning or banner. A hatchway appears to lead to a basement. Units at the right appear to be dwellings. Louvered shutters are at the windows and drainpipes lead from the roof. Hitching posts line the sidewalks. A man at the right is blurred from movement.
