DescriptionInfant's long, white cotton dress. The fabric is woven with a pattern of thick and thin twill stripes in the weft and twin stripes in the warp. Around the neckline, the dress has a square insert of white cotton fabric with a fancy woven stripe flanked by pintucking and, in the center, a strip of whitework embroidery. The edges of the insert are trimmed with bobbin lace. The neckline is high and round and is also trimmed with bobbin lace. The dress is gathered into the bottom of the insert at both front and back. The center back opening is twelve inches long, and fastens with three mother of pearl buttons (one is missing). The sleeves are about six inches long, and are gathered over an encased cord at the wrist openings, creating a self-fabric ruffle which is trimmed with bobbin lace. The bottom of the dress is decorated with three tucks over the 1 1/4-inch hem, which is edged with a 2 1/2-inch self-fabric ruffle trimmed with bobbin lace.
