DescriptionShiny black leather slippers, originally flat-soled, but with a low stacked heel added around 1865. The toes are a rounded square shape, and the throatline is square; the vamp is 3 1/8 inches long (medium length). A black velvet ribbon bow has been added to the vamp at the top of the throatline--probably at the same time that the heel was added. The quarters are lined in tan leather; the vamp is lined in plain-woven white cotton. the sock lining is pale tan leather, like the quarters' lining. The throatline is bound with black silk and cotton tape. A long loop of very narrow brown plaited tape is stitched to either side of each slipper.
