DescriptionGroup of men in front of a store in a brick commercial building. One man wears an apron. Some have mustaches. Two have beards. A sign above the awning reads: "W.C. Marsh & Co." Stenciled on the shop window are the words: "W.C. Marsh / Auctioneer." Other signs read: "Ask / for it" and "Sale." Items on display include a Windsor chair and an upholstered armchair on a table covered with a patterned cloth.A small boy on a tricycle is on the sidewalk in the foreground beside a statue representing an African American stable boy, probably intended for use as a garden decoration or hitching post. Part of a horse-drawn wagon is at the far left. A girl and other children, blurred from movement, are near a utility pole at far right.
NotesSubject Note: Wyatt C. Marsh is listed as an auctioneer at 506 Main Street in the 1887 Bridgeport directory.
