DescriptionMen and women in a store interior. One man holds a roll of wallpapear. All of the men wear hats. One has a mustache. One woman stands behind the counter waiting on a customer. The other woman stands in front of a typewriter [?] on a stand. Electric light fixtures with shades and cords hang from the ceiling. Paints and other supplies are displayed on shelves and in glass cases. Signs read: "P….nted Gloss Paint" "Nukote" "Shwmut / Prepared Paint" "John Briggs & Co." "Window Shades" "Hazard Bronze Green / Hazard Lead Works / Hazardville Conn. / Light Medium Dark Chrome."
NotesSubject Note: Abraham Hoffman was born in Russia to Jewish parents. He immigrated to Hartford in 1898 and established his wallpaper firm in 1903. Hoffman Wall Paper Co. at 1136 Main Street sold wallpaper, paint and artists supplies and offered services in house painting and decorating.
