NotesSubject Note: The Cheney block, designed by Henry Hobson Richardson, was erected 1876 as investment for two brothers in the family that owned the Cheney silk mills in Manchester. Brown, Thomson & Company advertised itself as "Connecticut's biggest department store" and "Hartford's Great Shopping Center." This photograph, taken by Irving Blomstrann, is a copy of an earlier photograph taken about 1910.
