DescriptionInfant's shirt of fine, white cotton, very finely stitched. The shirt is made of a long rectangle of fabric, with the narrow ends folded to the center back. The top edge of the back is gathered into a narrow band while the front is smooth. The addition of the short sleeves on the sides creates a wide, square neckline. The neckline is edged with narrow bobbin lace. The sleeves are cut as a long, narrow rectangle, with one lower corner turned up diagonally to create a gusset effect under the arm. The sleeves consist mainly of a one-inch band of bobbin lace, edges with a scalloped ruffle of another bobbin lace. A buttonhole is stitched on the right side of the opening at the neckline band, but the corresponding button is missing. Decorative backstitching is worked the length of the neckline band.
