DescriptionThe prominent utility poles in the foreground appear to be undergoing construction or repair. Nearby are shovels, buckets, a trash can [?], and a wheelbarrow, beside piles of sand or earth. A sidewalk runs between the poles at the left. A man walks along railroad tracks near a railroad crossing. The building in the left background appears to be a barn or warehouse. A sign on its side wall reads: "American Sumatra Tobacco Co. / Main Office, 142 Water St. NY." The building to the right appears to be a grocery store. To its right, partially hidden by trees, is another building, apparently a house.
NotesSubject Note: The Hartford office of the American Sumatra Tobacco Co. was located at 143 State Street.
