DescriptionView looking east on State Street. The American Hotel is at the far right. Across the street, the building with striped awnings is the Farmers and Mechanics National Bank. Additional commercial buildings and numerous very tall utility poles line the street on either side. A sign by a booth on the sidewalk in the left foreground reads: "Peanuts." A sign on an awning reads: "clothing." Horse-drawn carriages and wagons and bicycles are in the street. Men and women are on the sidewalks. Trolley tracks, possibly under construction, are in the immediate foreground. A railroad overpass with the Connecticut River in the background are in the distance at the end of the street.
