DescriptionGeneral view of construction site. Vertical-boarded wooden construction sheds line the road in the foreground. Signs read: "Emergency / Hospital" "T.C. Desmond / Engineers / and Contractors / New York City" "No Smoking." A sign on a utility pole in the foreground reads: "Giddings." A fire hydrant is to the right, near a parked automobile. Piles of building materials include lumber, bricks and pipes. Workmen, some in overalls, stand near a horse-drawn wagon. Other men work framing foundations. A steam engine is in the left background near fruit trees, probably apple trees, in front of a wooded hill. A truck is in the right background.
NotesSubject Note: The plot of land at the corner of New Britain Avenue and Newington Avenue was formerly a farm owned by Henry Stanwood Atwood, Street Commissioner of Hartford.
