DescriptionWorkmen, including bricklayers, pose on the second story of a building under construction. Some wear overalls. Several cranes are on the second story. Ladders and scaffolding are also visible. Building materials, including blocks of stone, bricks and lumber, are piled around the site. The brick wall of the adjoining building is at the left. The first floor design incorporates Ionic columns and pilasters.
NotesSubject Note: The Charter Oak Life Insurance Company was located at 240 Main Street. The company failed in 1878. The building was later occupied by the Aetna Life Insurance Co.
