DescriptionInfant's shirt of fine white linen, very finely stitched (forty stitches per inch). The shirt is constructed from a rectangle, with the narrow ends folded to the center back. Slits are made at the top of the folded edges and inserted with a band of self-fabric to create sleeves. The top edge is gathered into a band constructed of alternating bands of bobbin lace and ruched self-fabric, forming a yoke which creates a broad neckline. The sleeves are edged with bobbin lace insertion and a scalloped ruffle, also of bobbin lace. The neckline, continuing down the center back opening, is trimmed with scalloped bobbin lace.
