DescriptionA woman wearing jewelry, a veil, and a dress trimmed with lace, ermine, and pearls is attended by two younger women who sit or kneel beside her. Her jewelry includes earrings, a tiara, and a bracelet, which the woman at the left places on her right wrist. The woman at the right holds a box of what appear to be jewels, possibly diamonds. A stove is in the right background. A view down a passageway through an arch to a chandelier is in the left background.
NotesDate Note: The Diamond was published as the frontispiece of The Literary Gazette, Vol. I, No. 1 (July 1843) (Ellington, Conn.: Ellington Institute). The print was probably not produced specifically for this publication, but must have been printed shortly before The Literary Gazette was published, probably ca. 1840-1842. D.W. Kellogg is said to have left Connecticut in the late 1830s and the firm name becomes E.B. & E.C. Kellogg in 1840. The Literary Gazette is in the CHS Library QUARTO 373.746 E46L. (Finlay 11/10/2003)
