DescriptionStudio portrait of four young men with beards and mustaches holding walking sticks with iron tips and a coil of rope. They wear hats, jackets, vests, ties, loose pants and gaiters. Inscribed on back: "Gilbert G. Moseley / October 1877 / F.H. Chapin / C.P. Howard / E.L. Bliss / G.G. Moseley / Switzerland / Aug. / 1877." Identified, L-R: "E. Bliss / C.P. Howard / Gilbert Moseley / Fred Chapin / Sisson Drug Co."
NotesSubject Note: In 1877, Gilbert G. Mosely was assistant editor of the Religious Herald and lived with his father, G.W. Moseley, a grocer, at 63 Washington Street, Hartford. Charles P. Howard was a secretary at J.L. Howard & Co. and boarded at 30 Farmington Avenue. Edward L. Bliss was a clerk and boarded at 8 Village Street. F.H. Chapin was a clerk, probably at Chapin & Co.'s drug store at 4 American Row. He boarded at 32 Farmington Avenue.
