DescriptionA man stands on the left facing away from a seated woman. He has his nose in the air and is holding a miniature portrait of the woman. She is likewise holding his portrait, on a ribbon, as if to return it to him. A letter lies on the floor. On a table at the right is a box of cosmetics or perfume and a goldfish bowl. A second woman, presumably a servant, stands looking on in amusement from behind the table and in front of a folding screen.
