DescriptionThree horses hitched in tandem to a wagon that is decorated as if for a parade. The driver wears a top hat. A second man wearing a cap holds the reins of the first horse. Signs on the wagon read: "Fred M. Hotchkiss 119-127 So. Col... / Meriden Carriage Rep[ository?]" "Wholesa[le]." Two additional men stand in the doorway of a two-story frame commercial building in the background. Advertising posters, including one for "Maggie Cline Cigars [?]," are displayed in the shop windows. A barn is at the right, behind a large tree.
NotesSubject Note: In the 1900 Federal Census, Fred Hotchkiss is listed as forty-three years old. His occupation is given as shipping clerk. In the 1910 Census he is listed as a packer.
