NotesSubject Note: Hilda Monteith Keller, the daughter of the Hartford architect George Keller and Mary Monteith Smith Keller, was born in Hartford, Connecticut on July 30, 1888. Hilda graduated from Hartford High School and volunteered for the Red Cross during World War I. She later worked as an administrative assistant for the Institute for Living in Hartford and then for the Motor Vehicle Department. She never married. She lived in the family's Park Terrace home in Hartford, Connecticut until 1955 when she went to live with her brother, Walter in Coventry, Connecticut. She died at Crestfield Nursing home in Manchester, Connecticut in on February 11, 1978.
Subject note: Walter Chalmers Smith, the son of Walter Smith and Barbara Milne, was born in Alberdeen, Scotland on Decemeber 5, 1824. He attended Marischal College at the University of Aberdeen and became the ordained pastor of the Chadwell Street Scottish Church in London on December 25, 1850. He became the moderator of the Free Church of Scotland in 1893. He married Agnes Monteith in 1855 and they had 4 children, one of which was Mary Barbara Monteith Smith, Hilda's mother. He died on September 19, 1908.On View
