DescriptionFormal studio portraits and amateur snapshots of Mary Keller. In all but one photograph she is wearing a dress. In one photograph she is wearing golf pants and holding a golf club. In one photograph she is outside in a yard, holding an injured finger on a support. In one photograph she is sitting outside on a step in Norfolk, Connecticut. In one photograph she is standing outside of an automobile (circa 1918) with a Red Cross chauffeur. In one photograph she is sitting in a dining room with a French cook serving a meal. In one photograph she is sitting indoors, knitting in a chair, with two dogs at her feet.
NotesSubject Note: Mary Barbara Monteith Smith Keller, daughter of Walter Chalmers Smith and Agnes Monteith Smith, was born on January 14, 1860, in Edinburgh, Scotland and died in Hartford, Connecticut, on June 28, 1946. Mary met and married George Keller in 1887. They were married at the Free Church of Scotland in Edinburgh. They lived in Hartford, Connecticut, primarily on Park Terrace, and had a summer home in Norfolk, Connecticut. They had three children, Hilda, George, and Walter. Mary made several trips back to Scotland to visit her father up until the time of his death in 1908, bringing her children with her. Mary was a suffragist and an active volunteer for the Red Cross.
