DescriptionFour bicycle-wheel sulkies drawn by trotting horses and the heads and forequarters of two additional horses are visible. The white line in the center of the photograph evidently indicates the position of the starting line. In the background, beyond a picket fence, a crowd of spectators surrounds the lower story of a grandstand or reviewing stand. Inscribed in image: "Start of 2d Heat $10,000 Trot / Hartford Aug. 28 1889."
