DescriptionView of two large steam ferries at the dock on the New London side of the Thames River. The Groton shore is visible in the background. Nameboards on the ships read: "New London" and "Groton." Note on back: "Thames River Railroad ferries."
NotesSubject Note: The Thames River operated from 1871 to 1889, the Groton from 1873 to 1889. The two ferries were used to carry railroad cars before the first railroad drawbridge across the Thames opened in 1889.
