DescriptionView of Simsbury, Conn., from the west, taken from a height of one mile. From this height a locomotive whistle is but faintly heard, and trains of cars seem to creep at a snail's pace along their tracks. The Farmington river flowing to the north, and the N.H. & H. railroad extend across the river from end to end; the H. & C.W. railroad is seen from its entrance of the town to its junction with the other road. Hop brook flows through the town from the west and joins the river near a bridge. The light spots seen upon the ground are sandbanks, or patches of exposed soil. / These are the first and only successful views ever taken from a balloon.
