DescriptionViews of Asylum Street in downtown Hartford, Connecticut include automobile and pedestrian traffic. A policeman with a "Stop" sign directs traffic in one photograph, in which a corner of Bushnell Park is visible. Some photographs include trucks and trolleys; one photograph also includes a bus and a railroad train on the Asylum Street overpass. Portions of the street are lined with commercial buildings, some with awnings and electric signs. A rooftop billboard advertises Webb's shoe repair "Shoes Rebuilt / Not Just Cobbled." Other signs read "DRINK MILK" "SHINE" THE / LOBSTER" "CHARTER OAK / BOWLING EXCLUSIVELY" "MENTER" "MORGAN BUILDING / FOR RENT" "MAJESTIC"
NotesDate Note: Although all of the photographs were probably taken by Meyers Studio during the 1930s, the individual prints were made by Meyers Studio at different points in time, probably ranging from the 1930s to the late 1990s or early 2000s. (Finlay 5/29/2014)
