DescriptionViews of Main Street, Hartford, Connecticut, most of them taken from an elevated viewpoint from a position on the east side of the street just north of the Old State House. Trolley cars, trolley tracks, and overhead trolley wires appear in all of the photographs, as well as pedestrian and automobile traffic. The Phoenix National Bank is at the right of most photographs; the Hartford-Connecticut Trust Company building and the trees in front of the Old State House are at the left. The spire of the Center Congregational Church is in the background. Some photographs include billboards advertising Alderman Drug, Coca Cola, and Socony Gasoline. Businesses include the A. S. Beck Shop and Cut-Rate Perfumers. Some photographs include policemen directing traffic.
NotesDate Note: All of the photographs appear to have been taken about the same time, some of them on the same day, apparently in the mid-1930s. The individual prints were made by Meyers Studio at different points in time, probably ranging from the 1930s to the late 1990s or early 2000s. (Finlay 5/29/2014)

Subject Note: Some of the views are very similar but vary in slight details.
