DescriptionTwo views of the intersection of American Row, State Street, and Market Street in downtown Hartford, behind the Old State House. The view of the Old State House is entirely blocked the old Post Office, the ornate Second Empire structure at the right of each photograph. Travelers Tower and the Hartford-Connecticut Trust building appear in both photographs. A tall metal tower, apparently a radio tower, appears in front of Travelers Tower. Trolley tracks are in the roads and trolleys and automobiles appear in both photographs. A traffic policeman with a "Stop" sign is in the foreground of one photograph. Highway signs pointing to Middletown, New Haven, and New York are in the background. A large sign in the lower left of one photograph advertises the "LARGEST ASSORTMENT OF / CHINESE & DOMESTIC / FIREWORKS / IN THE STATE - JULY 3 & 4".
NotesDate Note: A duplicate of one of the photographs was dated 1932. Both photographs appear to have been taken about the same time, probably on the same day. 2014.72.75 is an early print probably made in 1932 shortly after the photograph was taken.
