DescriptionAerial photographs of downtown Hartford, Connecticut focus on the large vacant lot bordered by Main Street, Gold Street, and Wells Street, an area which had been cleared to make way for the construction of Bushnell Towers, a high-rise apartment complex. Construction equipment is present in part of the area which is also being used as a parking lot. Some photographs include Bushnell Park, the Connecticut State Capitol, Travelers Tower and Tower Square, the Old State House, Constitution Plaza, the Connecticut River, the Bulkeley Bridge, and the Founders Bridge. The Connecticut National Bank building is shown under construction.
NotesDate Note: Although 2014.72.41 is dated "1970" in pencil, it clearly was taken at the same time as the other photographs, which are stamped "May 27 1965." It shows the site at Main and Gold Streets before the beginning of construction; by 1970, the site was occupied by Bushnell Tower.

Subject Note: Although two towers were projected for the site at Main and Gold Streets, only one tower was ever constructed. The building therefore became known as Bushnell Tower, rather than Bushnell Towers, as originally intended.
