DescriptionThree photographs of Aetna Insurance Company buildings include one photograph showing the building on Main Street originally constructed for the Charter Oak Insurance Company, two others showing the monumental Colonial Revival home office on Farmington Avenue. Both buildings feature Ionic columns. The view of Main Street includes a trolley car, automobiles, and pedestrians on the sidewalks. The views of the home office show the surrounding landscaping, including paved walkways, steps, grassy lawns, and ornamental trees and shrubs. One photograph includes a small flower garden and an equetrian statue.
NotesDate Note: Photographs are evidently later reprints from original negatives. Date is approximate date when photographs were taken.

Subject Note: The Charter Oak Insurance Company building was built in 1869; it was later occupied by the Aetna Life Insuracne Company. It was torn down in 1959 to create Travelers Tower Square. The Aetna home office building was completed in 1931 to designs by James Gamble Rogers. Several distinguished Farmington Avenue houses were demolished to make way for the building.
